Just announced!
Glee Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 20th at the Valdosta Mall.
Glee auditions? Gleeks rejoice, because it’s true: Glee is holding open casting calls to fill three roles in Glee’s upcoming second season. Anyone will be able to apply, provided that you can sing, and that you look like a high school student (Ages 16-26). Fox has a dedicated “Glee” audition page on which you can see existing cast members’ audition tapes: watch the Glee auditions online to get a feel for what the experience is like.
For those who have never attended an open call, it’s an exercise in misery: you’ll be waiting for around six hours to spend eleven seconds with bored casting directors who have already pretty much made up their minds about who they want to cast. They don’t call ‘em cattle calls for nothing. You’ve been warned. Having said that, if you don’t care one way or the other, it’s a people-watching extravaganza, between the prima donnas and the stage parents. What a great experience!
Oh, and if you thread the needle and actually land the gig… you will have to do with Sue Sylvester!
Black and White TV
(Under age 40? You won’t understand.)
You could hardly see for all the snow,
Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.
Pull a chair up to the TV set, ’Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet.’
My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn’t seem to get food poisoning.
My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter and I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but I can’t remember getting e.coli.
Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.
The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.
We all took gym, not PE…and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked’s (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can’t recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.
Flunking gym was not an option… even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.
Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention.
We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.
I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.
I just can’t recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.
Oh yeah… and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!
We played ‘king of the hill’ on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn’t sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked.
Now it’s a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.
We didn’t act up at the neighbor’s house either; because if we did we got our butt spanked there and then we got our butt spanked again when we got home.
I recall my friend from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off.
Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house.
Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck.
To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family.
How could we possibly have known that?
We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes.
We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn’t even notice that the entire country wasn’t taking Prozac!
How did we ever survive?

Can I Borrow $5?
A woman came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find her 5-year old son waiting for her
at the door.
SON: ‘Mommy, may I ask you a question?’
MOM: ‘Yeah sure, what it is?’ replied the woman.
SON: ‘Mommy, how much do you make an hour?’
MOM: ‘That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?’ the woman said angrily.
SON: ‘I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?’
MOM: ‘If you must know, I make $20 an hour.’
SON: ‘Oh,’ the little boy replied, with his head down.
SON: “Mommy, may I please borrow $5?”
The mother was furious, ‘If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don’t work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.’
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut
the door..
The woman sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?
After about an hour or so, the woman had calmed down, and started to think:
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $5 and he really didn’t ask for money very often..The woman went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.
‘Are you asleep, son?’ She asked.
‘No Mommy, I’m awake,’ replied the boy.
‘I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier’ said the woman. ‘It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $5 you asked for.’
The little boy sat straight up, smiling. ‘Oh, thank you Mummy!’ he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.
The woman saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.
The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his mother.
‘Why do you want more money if you already have some?’ the mother grumbled.
‘Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,’ the little boy replied.
‘Mommy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow.
I would like to have dinner with you.’
The mother was crushed. She put her arms around her little son, and she begged for his forgiveness.
It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $20 worth of your time with someone you love.

Well, I have looked all over the internet for someone who has broken both feet and I cannot find any information, so I guess I will be the first one to blog about it also!
Yes, both feet. Two weeks ago. How in the world? I know…I know!
Almost two weeks ago, on a Friday afternoon, I was returning a key to a business. They managed a property I was very interested in renting for my business. As soon as I walked out of the building after returning the key, I tripped over an unmarked parking curb. It blended in with the asphalt in the parking lot. It was also directly in front of the door! As I tripped over the curb, instead of falling, I tried to keep my balance. And I kept my balance for a good 5-6 feet until I finally just dropped to the ground. I heard something pop, so I thought maybe the right foot was broken.
I called my mom, very calmly which was very odd for me because normally I am quite the drama queen in a crisis. I explained to her that I fell and I was waiting on the ambulance. I called her again from the ambulance and told her I didn’t know why they had the sirens on for me. We decided later that I was in shock.
When I arrived in the ER, my friend, Kristie Winningham was there working….thank God! She took such good care of me. Aaron was in Forsyth and he arrived at the ER the same time my employee and friend, Blake Woodruff arrived. The ER doctor explained that the XRay showed that not one foot was broken, but actually, both were broken. He then asked me what doctor I wanted, and of course, I wanted Dr. Goss! I have taught his children modeling for the past five years. He then said that Dr. Goss wanted a CT Scan to make sure my ankles were not broken as well and make sure we were not going to go into surgery.
After the CT Scan, I heard the worst news. Yes, they were both broken…in several places, and yes, I would be having surgery that evening around 10pm, and here is the doosie…I would not be able to walk for THREE MONTHS! Are you kidding? I had a photo shoot the very next day! I was scheduled to shoot 25 people that weekend. I worked it it all out. I could shoot in a scooter. It would be fine. No problem. I still had not fully realized what was happening. I sent Aaron home to get my pajamas…I was not going to wear that hospital gown to surgery…my bag was still packed from my hospital stay in December for my asthma. I told my mom and sister they could just go to their scheduled aerobics class. Then…Dr. Goss came in and said we were going to surgery right now.
Blake was still with me, thank God! I tried to get everyone on the phone but they couldn’t even get there in time, they took me back so fast. Thankfully, Blake was with me and kept me laughing until almost the last minute. I was pretty scared as I was wheeled into the OR. After surgery, that was when I finally learned how bad it really was. Torn ligaments, my right heel was torn away from the bones, the bones in the left foot were shattered at the end, and I was loaded down with wires and screws and plates and pins.
My family had discussed a plan of attack! I would live with my mom for the 3 months while I healed. My sister was helping with Kaileigh’s transportation to school and home. And food was being scheduled for delivery as soon as I was released from the hospital. I was at SGMC on the 4th floor for 7 days. I do not remember the majority of my time there. Pain is an understatement. Of course, I was allergic to the first pain medication they gave me, and immediately became sick right out of surgery. On the 7th day, I convinced Dr. Goss that I was ready to leave and was transported to mom’s in an ambulance.
I have a hospital bed here, a bedside potty, a shower chair, a sliding board, a wheel chair and a scooter. I think we have rented, bought and borrowed everything available. I am 5 days into my 3 months and it has been very hard. I miss my pain pump from the hospital. They do not send that home with you for some reason! You have no idea how much you use your feet for simple things like scooting up in your bed to sliding over to the scooter. And I can’t use mine at all. I learned this week that I will never be able to walk in heels again. REALLY? I wear them practically every day and I teach people how to walk in heels. I am guessing I am not a shining example right now! Darn parking curb!
I know there is a reason for everything. I know God has a plan for me. I just wish I knew what it was. Maybe for my mom and I to grow closer since we are together 24.7! I know I love my husband more than ever after seeing him take care of me with such love and patience. I know I fully appreciate walking! I will never take that for granted. I know I appreciate my employees who are operating AM&T like it was their business. I know I appreciate my mom, my sister and my Papa who have gone out of their way to help make this easier on me and help take care of Kaileigh in the process. And I know who my true friends are because they have visited, sent flowers, sent food, sent magazines, and have called. I feel very blessed in the middle of this nightmare. And I know it could be worse, but that is the last thing you want to hear when you are going through this so I am thankful no one has said that to me yet.
So, now there is a blog from someone who has broken them both at the same time! I hope it never happens to anyone else, but in the event that it does, at least that person can read about my experience and maybe my road will make theirs less bumpy!
Stay tuned! My first doctor’s appointment is Tuesday. We are going to have a dry run this weekend to make sure they can get me in and out of a car. I really do not want to ride in another ambulance to the doctor’s office and back home!

And yes, it’s that simple — a free one-day ticket to a Disneyland or Walt Disney World theme park for guests who volunteer a day of service to a participating organization. They are celebrating you and the good things you do for your communities.
The program officially began on January 1, 2010. You may visit www.DisneyParks.com or www.DisneyParks.ca and search for an eligible volunteer project. After completing the volunteer work, an e-mail will be sent from Disney with a link to print out a voucher to redeem at a theme park for a free one-day, one-park admission. And if you’re unable to use the ticket, it can be donated to a charity designated by Disney.
With this announcement, they’re looking for 1 million people with a passion to make a difference. They’re helping make sure you find the perfect volunteer work. And many of the program’s volunteer opportunities will be for the family.
Also, you’ll notice that we’re raising awareness for grass-roots community volunteerism. Disney VoluntEARS are joining local volunteers in cities across the United States and Canada today. Work projects involving more than 1,000 volunteers are happening in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami and across Canada — Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and Vancouver.
They will be posting more details about the program and how it may involve your city on the @DisneyParks Twitter account.
Kudos, Disney! What a great way to increase volunteerism in our communities!
So, I’m a little late in announcing my New Year’s Resolutions for 2010. That was going to be one of my resolutions, to be on time…I immediately scratched that one. In being late, I have had the opportunity to read everyone’s Resolutions, and there are several over-achievers out there. I tried to make a realistic list this year. There are the obvious ones…spend more time with my family, spend more time praying, be very thankful for my job, and spend more time smiling rather than frowning.
Here are the REAL resolutions….
1) Be less verbally honest. I learned in 2009 that people do not want to hear when their outfit is notsomuch, when their teenage daughter’s behavior is not appropriate, or that Lipo is only successful when you are almost already skinny.
2) Find more friends celebrating their 40th birthday. One of the best nights of 2009 was celebrating one of my friend’s 40th birthday in the back of a limo, singing 80’s tunes, and quoting “Friday”. It also taught me to more appreciative of my husband and our marriage because after going into the R-Rodeo…well, that was just a straight hot mess.
3) Locate my collar bone and at least one rib. I seem to have misplaced both over the past four year. After I locate these body parts, I plan to have a large bonfire and destroy all Spanx. I’m so over it!
4) Surround myself with others who are doing as much for me as I am for them. Now wait a minute, that is not negative. Get past that. Think about it. When you constantly do, do, do for others…it gets old and is just silly. I will always do for others when it makes me feel good to do so, but constantly doing for others and never receiving so much as a Thank You is not so good. I’m not talking about Charity here. That is totally different.
5) Develop or bring a reality TV show to Valdosta because if the Kardashians can become millionaires just because of OJ, I feel certain there is a hit E! show in the making because in Valdosta, it is all about who you know. I saw several reality TV stars in the making at “StreamSide” one night. We would like to thank the owners for giving women all ages a place to drop it like it’s hot. I, myself, dropped it also and was very thankful I could still get back up. Others were not so fortunate. Maybe a Real Housewives of ValVegas? This resolution is still in development. I will update in six months.
6) Going to bed earlier so maybe I can wake up feeling more like P-Diddy less like Bo Diddley. Staying up late to see who has prepared twice baked potatoes for supper, who cleaned their entire house and washed eight loads of laundry all in two hours, or who was at Walmart dodging people they normally speak to online or Liking their photos or commenting on their status is SO exhausting! I plan to narrow who I stalk on FaceSpace down to a Top 10 list.
Resolutions complete! Crossing one more thing off my To Do list…going to search for bones now.
Happy 2010!
